Guest Blog Alert! A Memorable Summer On A Budget

For those families who are excited about what summer has to bring, watching the budget is often a big concern. When the cost of traveling is simply out of arms reach, parents should plan to make the most out of their summer staycation time. Being a little bit creative can go a long way, especially when it's often the only option.

Parents should make certain that all of the picnic and day trip gear is up to date and at the ready. When short trips and sunny days at the park will be frequent, being prepared will make it that much more enjoyable. A cooler that will accommodate the whole family, plenty of functional chairs, and disposable plates and utensils should always be ready to go.

Checking with area amusement parks and other local attractions will generally pay off. Discount passes for frequent visits, or price breaks for large families are usually available. Some credit card companies also offer cash back promotions at amusement parks like Six Flags.Inviting neighborhood kids and adding moms as chaperones will also secure reasonably priced tickets.

Most communities understand that saving money is important in today's economy. Often times community centers or local civic groups will plan bus trips for parents and children who want to catch a baseball game, or visit an attraction that is a few hours away. Parents who put their heads together can even plan their own bus trips and hire a charter company to take care of transportation.

There is no need to let a beautiful summer pass by. Fun on a budget, is still fun!

And Baby Makes 3

I think back to when my 5 year old was first born. I must say it was truly a special time, saturated with some new experience daily. I can recall the very first night of her arrival; she slept through the entire night! I remember thinking, "Wow this is going to be a breeze!” Yeah, well definitely not the case. The next night...and every night thereafter, my sleep had become more like random spurts of unconsciousness. My husband (then boyfriend) and I were so sleep deprived that we envied the rest of the world, knowing they were nestled snuggly in their beds; while we took turns changing diapers and feeding our newborn. Truth be told, I even resented my husband at times as I would look over and see him sleeping so soundly! My husband and I have this unspoken game (I like to call it “sleep roulette”) in which we pretend to be in such a deep sleep, that we do not hear our daughter’s crying. That way, the other parent will get up and change a diaper, make a bottle, or give a glass o...
